It is better to practice a little than talk a lot.

Actions speak louder than words.

Some people spend their lifetime talking about what they are going to do and how they’re going to do it but when push comes to shove they never execute. Wasting time and efforts to repeat yourself about future endeavors that are probably never going to take place is not going to get you anywhere.

It is important to go for what you envision and do everything possible to reach those objectives.

Work hard. Play hard. Talk less.

It is a poor idea to lie to yourself.

It honestly is a poor idea to lie to yourself.

People do this all the time and the scariest part is when they start believing their own lies. You know the type I’m talking about the serial liars. It’s sad really.

Lying to yourself is never a good idea no matter what. But how does one actually go about lying to yourself? Don’t you know everything about yourself and what you do? Or does the lie become so powerful that it takes over the part of your memory that knows it’s a lie? And if that is true is there something you should avoid to stop the lie from growing?

You’re lying to yourself (and you don’t even know it!): a 12 step program that releases the truth within you. How do you go from telling a lie to believing it? Fascinating, really.

Being the dedicated that I am I went online and found this great article about lying to yourself:

After reading that article I realised: I just lied to myself a minute ago! Need to eat less take-aways (yeah right).

Not all who wander are lost.

Don’t we all wander at some stage of our lives? I think its part of human nature to be a little lost at times and delve from your destiny. I used to be wanderer and not just any kind I used to be the I’m-a-IT-whiz-kid kind wanderer.

I wasn’t lost I just knew I had to get out of my hometown at that stage of my life. I wanted to be a CITYzen (get it?) and do random courses. Not because I didn’t know what I wanted to do but because I wanted to do so much. After a chat with parents I soon realized that this was not going to happen. “Engineering, IT or science”. Huh? What happened to making your own choices in life and the whole you can be whatever you wish to be thing? After a year I dropped out, no more Cobol for meJ.

I eventually ended up where I am to because of all of that and although it took longer than intended. See the thing is I wasn’t moving about without any goals and I surely wasn’t going to give up. The wandering made me realize that no matter where I find myself I should always look at the goals future I set out for myself.

How do you step from the top of a 100-foot pole?

The picture above clearly demonstrates how it has to be done only in the opposite direction. If only. Taking one step from the top is likely to ensure a couple of bruises or broken bones. Standing on top for more than an hour will see me fall flat on my face. Sliding down the pole? Would’ve been so much easier. What if the top of the pole is level with the balcony of a flat or something. That would make the entire process so much easier.

To step to the top of the pole in the first place would be a mission in. Perhaps the pole has steps on the one side making it easy to get onto it and thus easy to get off it. If there are steps I would definitely take the steps. The pole may be buried in the ground with only one-foot sticking out above ground level. That would be easy. Without virtually any effort I would be able to get on it and off. In less than 10 seconds - new world record!

How do you step from the top of a 100-foot pole?
I
would guess the opposite way you got on top of that pole.

We are what we do.

If someone was to say I am a funny, clumsy, food loving, brandy (Klipdrift - proudly Robertson) drinking, sneaker buying, Beatles fanatic, Long Street loving, great singing, very stylish, beer connoisseur, hard working, dedicated, loving, strong, open minded, opinionated, family loving, gentle, caring, Lauren C stalking, B-Tech Public Relations Management male student at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology I would be fine with the description. Actually, I would be more than fine (I mean stylish come on).

I realized a long time ago that action speaks louder than words and that my actions determine who I am and how I am perceived by other. Sure we all make mistakes and people tend to remember them for what seems like an eternity, but what’s important is not to repeat them.

I know a lot of people who say they did this or are going to do that yet one never see it happening. As I said Action speak louder than words so do and put everything into it. It is important to remember what we do is an extension of ourselves. The projects we tackle in life no matter how small speak volumes on who we are and what we are capable of.

Do instead of say. Make it happen.

Fin.

French speaking perhaps?

We are afraid of the wrong things

Spiders, snakes and even clowns- just some of the things people are afraid of. Now don’t get me wrong some of the above mentioned thing can be quite scary (especially the clowns in my case), but are they really that troublesome?

The little Miss Muffets of the world will indicate by scream their terror of spiders but in a world where thousands of people get laid off their job should an itsy bitsy spider the worst of our fears? Shouldn’t we be afraid of things less trivial? I know I am.

I am afraid of not getting employed once I’m done with my degree. I fear for our country and what will become of it after the elections. I fear the impact global warming will have on our world. The crime, murder and rape rate in our country and I wonder what will be done about it. I am afraid of not being able to afford a lifestyle I am accustomed to due to the recession. I am afraid of becoming preppy and move to Pleasantville because I didn’t mind the gap (between live as I will live it and live as I was meant to live it).

Still, after all is said and done what I’m afraid of most - right now- is clowns. Is that so wrong?

What is the colour of the wind?

While it sweeps me from the ground into its arm, I ask myself this: What colour is the wind? Is it the same colour as the rainbow when one can’t see it? Maybe it’s two shades darker. I doubt the wind simply doesn’t come across as two shades darker than the rainbow when one can’t see it. The wind could’ve been blue if the sky and ocean didn’t already take that colour. It’s an unwritten law of nature that only two thing may have the same colour. That explains why finding a red flower with red leaves is so hard. Blue is taken, so is green. Yellow? The wind is yellow! Doubt it. The wind colour of the wind could be like the colour of The Nothing that came and destroyed Fantasia or the song on the lane formerly known as east two blocks down from Sannie’s Spaza. Pocahontas aught to know she had that song about the wind and colour in her Disney movie. The wind is transparent but that’s not a colour is it? Is clear a colour? I want to paint my wall clear- definitely not clear.

Maybe the wind has no colour and this question is part of a conspiracy to get me blogging. You decide.

If I were the boss...

  • Reading the SL magazine would be a prerequisite
  • The music of the Beatles will mesmerise us for one entire day per month
  • I would make use of technology to communicate
  • All employees will be required to wear sneakers, hoodies and t-shirts
  • I would set up a system to reward hard working employees
  • I wouldn’t come in on Mondays unless necessary – I really hate Mondays
  • I would be strict when it comes to deadlines
  • I would want to create an atmosphere of unity and belonging
  • Everyone will have a workstation, no offices
  • I would organise team building activities outside the work environment
  • We would have karaoke during lunch on Fridays
  • Employees would have the option of taking lunch or leaving earlier (except Fridays)
  • I would be more organised
  • I would take time to discuss problems employees might have in the workplace - a suggestion box for the shy ones
  • I would indentify what the employees strengths are and appoint related tasks to them
  • I would be compassionate when it comes to employees problems

If I were the boss I hope that I won’t be called a jackass.

Designer PR

I am both glad and excited to be apart of this new PR movement. For quite some time the PR industry has been associated with propaganda, publicity and lies. It's good to see the industry moving into a new direction that will create more interest and will also ensure that PR is up to date with technology.

Being quite the n.e.r.d I am looking forward to this year if this assignment is anything to go by. In the digital age where almost everything works with the touch of a button it is always good to be too techno-savvy rather than slacking behind.

The move to the Information and Design faculty makes so much more sense.

Paul McCartney is Dead!

On Wednesday, 9 November 1966 at 5am Paul McCartney during a recording session for the Sgt.Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band album. Paul stormed out of the studio after an argument with the other Beatles and drove off in his car which he then crashed into a lamp post and died.

Paul McCartney was replaced with the winner of a Paul McCartney lookalike contest. The name of this lookalike has been recorded Billy Shears, the name of the fabricated leader of Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. Billy looked a lot like McCartney but there were a small number of differences. Amongst them the top lip had to be fattened up a little, but there was a doctor’s error which left a scar. At the end, the new McCartney was pretty much impossible to tell apart from the real McCartney.

After the release of the Beatles’ Abbey Road the rumour swept across America concerning the death of Paul McCartney. While this rumour was very popular on among fans respected news publications like the New York Times, Time Magazine, and Life Magazine also covered the story.
The cover of Abbey Road shows the Beatles walking across Abbey Road. John is dressed in white, as the preacher. George is dressed like the grave digger. Ringo is dressed as pallbearer, Paul, who is out of step, barefoot, and the only one holding a cigarette in his right hand when he is left handed, is obviously a corpse. George is dressed like the grave digger. A Volkswagen with the license plate is in the background that says “28 if” followed by “LMW.” Paul would have been 28 if he were alive LMV is said to stand for Linda McCartney Weeps.

According to several internet sites clues were left by the Beatles in the lyrics of several songs. The most common story includes the following pieces of evidence:
"He didn't notice that the lights had changed" ("A Day in the Life") because he was busy watching the pretty girl on the pavement (the eponymous meter maid of "Lovely Rita") after narrowly missing her dressed in blue (she's said to be the blur on the back of Abbey Road) jaywalking ("Blue Jay Way"). He then crashed into a lamp-post (a car crash sound is heard in "Revolution 9" and "A Day in the Life"). He was pronounced dead on a "Wednesday morning at 5 o'clock as the day begins" ("She's Leaving Home"), and nobody found out this because the news was withheld: "Wednesday morning papers didn’t come" ("Lady Madonna"). A funeral procession was held days later (as supposedly implied in the Abbey Road album cover). Adding fuel to the legend is the ending of "Strawberry Fields Forever." Some believed John said "I buried Paul" in a slow deep voice over the final refrain.

In the end the new McCartney could have fooled anyone, and eventually he did fool billions of us!
